Cape Quarter

De Waterkant, Cape Town

Situated in one of Cape Town's most characterful neighbourhoods, this De Waterkant apartment presented a familiar brief: the developer's palette of grey, white and warm neutrals was beautifully executed — but the clients wanted more. They wanted colour, personality, and a home that felt unmistakably theirs.

The response was layered and bold without ever becoming chaotic. A peacock green feature — in both wallpaper and paint — anchors the entrance, setting the tone from the moment you step inside. In the main bedroom, wallpaper evoking traditional clay art techniques wraps the walls in rich, earthy warmth, complemented by a deep orange accent wall and a dramatic navy velvet headboard. Striking wildlife photography completes rooms that feel both glamorous and grounded in Africa.

Throughout the apartment, a curated collection of South African art, bold sculptural pieces and a lacquered red Chinese cabinet weave a narrative that celebrates the continent without resorting to cliché. The kitchen's dark cabinetry, the woven pendant over the dining table, the ghost chairs with crimson cushions — every element considered to create a space that is generous, joyful, and deeply liveable.
